Linda Owen-Lloyd, the founder of the online Children’s Book Illustration gallery, is selling the business.
Owen-Lloyd said she wants to step back for various personal reasons. She told The Bookseller: “I am going to be very sad to leave. I have been running the business for a long time so now it’s the right time to do something different.”
The gallery sells pictures from children’s book illustrators such as Axel Scheffler, Anthony Browne, Lucy Cousins and Polly Dunbar, and currently has more than 1,500 pictures in stock. The pictures would be negotiated in the sale, depending on the consent of each artist, said Owen-Lloyd.
The business also tours bookshops and other venues with exhibitions of the illustrators’ works.
“The illustrators would all like the business to continue,” she added. “For some, it’s important in terms of revenues, and for others it’s important because we get their name out in the market through our exhibitions and online newsletters.”
Owen-Lloyd set up the business in 2003 after leaving a job in marketing at Walker Books.
The business will stay open until February, when it will close if no buyer has been found. Anyone who is interested in taking it over can contact Owen-Lloyd on linda@childrensbookillustration.com.
