Chelsea owner Abramovich sues HarperCollins and author over Putin's People

Chelsea FC's Russian owner Roman Abramovich has launched legal proceedings over “false or misleading” claims in Catherine Belton's book Putin's People (William Collins).

The suit has been filed against both Belton and HarperCollins over the 2020 title, which includes a claim by Russian billionaire Sergei Pugachev that Abramovich bought Chelsea on the orders of Vladimir Putin. 

Abramovich's lawyers Harbottle & Lewis said the book “falsely alleges that our client has acted corruptly, and makes false claims about our client’s purchase, and the activities, of Chelsea Football Club.” It added:...
