Charlotte's Web and Stuart Little available in 'e' for first time

HarperCollins will publish three children’s classics by Charlotte’s Web author E B White as e-books for the first time this March.

Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little, both written by White and illustrated by Garth Williams, will be published digitally along with The Trumpet of the Swan, illustrated by Fred Marcellino.

Susan Katz, president and publisher of HarperCollins Children’s Books US, said: “We are thrilled to bring our three timeless E B White classics to the e-book world. We’ve been the home of these titles since they were first published more than 60 years ago, and we couldn’t be more excited to have a new generation of digitally-savvy readers discover and enjoy these books.”

Ann-Janine Murtagh, executive publisher of HarperCollins Children’s Books UK, added: “We are delighted to be joining forces with our colleagues in the US on this global acquisition and adding these three stellar classics to our digital portfolio. EB White’s stories have enchanted generations of children across the globe and it is fantastic that they will now be enjoyed by many more.”

The print books are published in the UK by Puffin.

White’s granddaughter, Martha White, explained the reasons behind the digital editions. She said: “It has become clear that the e-book and print book markets are largely distinct and complementary, rather than competing for the same pie. Schools and libraries that already have the print books are adding tablets and e-readers, and we want E B White’s classic stories to be among the choices.”

HarperCollins will publish the e-books on 17th March 2015.
