Charco Press has snapped up rights to Argentinian crime writer Claudia Piñeiro’s novel, Elena Sabe, with plans to reposition her as a fiction writer.
The indie bought world English rights from Schavelzon-Graham Literary Agency for Piñeiro’s novel Elena Sabe (Elena Knows) published originally by Alfaguara in 2007.
The novel won the renowned German LiBeraturpreis and will be published by Charco Press late 2020/early 2021.
Charco says it will re-launch the work of Piñeiro in English, and “present her as a writer of excellent fiction rather than specifically a crime writer.”
Some of Piñeiro’s novels have previously been translated into English by Bitter Lemon Press.
Carolina Orloff, co-founder and director of Charco Press, said: “We are very excited to be reimagining Claudia’s future in the UK market. To date readers here have only been exposed to her crime novels, but Claudia’s range, output and appeal is so much broader. Elena Knows is a prime demonstration of her talent. The potential is huge.”
