Academic publisher Sage has re-structured its senior management team on a global level, which includes promoting deputy managing director in London, Ziyad Marar, to global publishing director.
Marar, who has worked at Sage for more than 20 years, will now be responsible for the publisher's global programme, which includes all editorial, production and marketing operations both in the US and UK. He retains the title of deputy m.d.
Other role changes include Stephen Barr, president of Sage International and m.d of Sage London, who takes on global responsibility for Sage's sales operations. Sales and marketing director Clive Parry has been appointed vice president and global marketing director.
Blaise Simqu, president and chief executive of the group, said: "Our business has become increasingly more complex and global in nature, and our products are no longer clearly delineated on a geographical basis.
"It makes strategic and organisational sense to create a more global publishing organization to allow us to respond more effectively to the market and the demands of the ever changing landscape of the publishing industry."
Simqu added: "I have worked with Ziyad for more than 15 years. His personal passion for, and commitment to, Sage's growth and success has been well evidenced over his two decades at the company.
"His own experience as a published author in psychology and philosophy makes him a true representative of Sage's aspiration to be the natural home for authors, editors and societies. He is a dedicated advocate of social science research, and champion of new, innovative approaches to our publishing."
