Cengage Learning has agreed to sell materials used in 14 college-level courses in order to proceed with the acquisition of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Co's college division, reports Reuters.
Cengage, an educational publisher, announced in December it would buy Houghton Mifflin's college division for $750m in cash. The transaction as originally proposed would have eliminated competition and "likely resulted in lower quality of textbooks and related educational materials or higher textbook prices," the Justice Department's Antitrust Division said in a statement.
