CBeebies' Twirlywoos snapped up in HC deal

HarperCollins Children’s Books has acquired the global publishing rights to the new CBeebies show "Twirlywoos", created by Anne Wood of Ragdoll Productions in association with DHX Media.

Executive publisher Ann-Janine Murtagh and publishing and creative director Rachel Denwood bought exclusive rights in all publishing formats, physical and digital, from Tom Roe, commercial director at DHX Brands (DHX Media’s consumer products arms).

Twirlywoos is a new pre-school show for toddlers, featuring four bird-like ‘Twirlywoo’ characters that teach children about concepts such as ‘round and round’ and ‘up and down’. The concept was created by Wood, who also came up with the Teletubbies, and the show began airing on CBeebies in February.

HarperCollins Children’s will this October start publishing a range of tie-in titles, including Twirlywoos Little Library and two board books - Meet the Twirlywoos and Hello Chickedy, Hello Chick.

Roe said: “With licensing activity ramping up on Twirlywoos, we are looking to appoint the best licensees in each category and HarperCollins is a first-class partner to launch with this property globally. The television series is exceeding our expectations and the books will be a significant part of the consumer products offering.”
