Cath Burke, Sphere Fiction publisher and executive director of Little, Brown’s rights and audio teams, has been promoted to deputy managing director of Little, Brown Book Group as Lucy Malagoni is promoted to Sphere Fiction publisher.
In her new role as deputy, Burke will report to managing director Charlie King, working closely with him and the rest of L,B’s senior team on company strategy and growth plans. She will continue to oversee the company’s rights and audio business and L,B’s creative director Duncan Spilling will also report to Burke in her new role.
King praised the “enormous contribution” Burke had made to the company since joining in 2010, powering Sphere’s fiction list and directly overseeing the publishing of many of its biggest authors, including the likes of Carole Matthews, Nicholas Sparks and Alex Marwood, as well as author brands such as Clare Mackintosh, Mark Billingham, Val McDermid and Jenny Colgan.
He also credited her for contributing to “spectacular growth” in working with L,B's rights and audio teams, and for being "instrumental in driving the special publishing relationship between Bookouture and Little, Brown”.
"I can’t wait to work even more closely with her in her new role,” he said.
Lucy Malagoni, publishing director for Sphere Fiction, has meanwhile been promoted to Sphere Fiction publisher. In her new role, reporting to Burke, she will run commercial fiction for Sphere, overseeing publishing strategy, and the imprint’s fiction editorial team.
Burke said: "Lucy is an outstanding editor, publisher and colleague and we are thrilled to be promoting her to Sphere Fiction publisher. Lucy will oversee the best commercial fiction team in the business and I look forward to her helping deliver even more success for our incredible authors in her new role."
