Octopus imprint Cassell has bagged the rights to a fresh book of dad jokes from the creators of hugely popular Instagram account @DadSaysJokes.
Publishing director Stephanie Jackson acquired world rights in all languages from Ollie Thomas at Beyond Talent Global. All New Dad Jokes will be published in September as a £10 hardback.
The Instagram account @DadSaysJokes, created by father-and-son duo Kit and Andrew Chilvers, has amassed 1.2 million followers, while the book’s 2018 predecessor, Dad Jokes: The very best of @DadSaysJokes (Cassell), sold 28,667 UK print copies according to Nielsen.
Inspired by the daily jokes of Kit's dad, Andrew, All New Dad Jokes is billed as “a fresh collection of excruciating zingers, perfectly crafted to combat silences in lifts, awkward family dinners or painfully long car journeys.”
Followers have also voted for their favourite dad joke to appear on the new book’s cover in an online poll. The groan-worthy winner was: “I used to hate facial hair. But then it grew on me.”
Andrew said: “Unbelievable as it may sound, our dedicated communities on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook have said they’re keen for another volume of cringeworthy jokes. So here it is fellow japesters - just be careful what you wish for.”
