Phil Carroll, former head of book buying for Sainsbury's, is joining Pedigree Books Ltd as its interim head of sales.
Pedigree Books, sister company to Pedigree Dolls & Toys, publishes annuals, yearbooks, learning and seasonal activity formats for children.
Carroll will join the company on Monday 4th May and will work alongside Matthew Reynolds, publishing director at Pedigree. In his new role, he will be responsible for driving forward Pedigree’s sales team across all sales channels and ranges.
Reynolds said: “In view of the changing face of retail and the need for all suppliers to measure up, we have asked Phil to join us to help develop our existing trading models and relationships to further address the needs of our retail customers. Phil has a wealth of experience covering all books categories, which is particularly relevant to our licensed based approach to the market. We very much look forward to having Phil as part of our team.”
Carroll left Sainsbury’s last month after nine years at the retailer, and six and a half running the retailer’s books category. During his time, Carroll increased book sales year-on-year and oversaw the launch of the company's own children's publishing line, an annual Children's Book Prize, an exclusive partnership with Centum Books and an Extraordinary Lives autobiographical series. His departure followed a period of head office consultations at the supermarket.
Carroll said of his new appointment: “I'm excited by the challenges and opportunities this role will offer and I'm looking forward to working with a great team of people and being part of a company with such a strong reputation in children’s publishing.”
