Cardooo expands story card range

Cardooo's greetings card, which incorporates a small book of stories or puzzles, is selling strongly in the card trade but is failing to get a foothold among major booksellers.

Cardooo, which has developed the greeting card booklet, has sold over 25,000 copies of its bestselling card, a "get well" card that includes a crossword puzzle book for adults, largely through card shops and the gift trade.

Nick Kenney, Cardooo c.e.o., said: "The indies have been very keen and willing to trial it but trying to sell the concept of little books inside cards to the rest of the trade has proven to be harder than we envisaged. Once people get the idea and stock the cards, the cards sell, but getting bookseller chains to stock them has been difficult."

W H Smith will begin to stock a small selection of cards from January.

Cardooo has expanded its range to include over 100 different cards, mainly for children, including cards with fairy tales and nursery rhymes. Cardooo is now approaching authors to write short stories that can be included in the cards.

The company has also grown its range of Christmas stories in preparation for the upcoming Christmas season, including an illustrated version of The Night Before Christmas and The Twelve Days of Christmas. Each card retails at £3.50 and is free of VAT.
