HarperCollins UK is to release the novel Capricornia that was adapted for the forthcoming movie "Australia" directed by Baz Luhrmann. The Zavier Herbert title will be released on Saturday (1st December). Originally published in 1938, the novel is set in the outback and is about the clash between the white and Aboriginal cultures.
The generational saga features a wide cast of outback characters as the Aborigines seek fortune in a harsh and remote territory. Capricornia was the original name for the northern Australia region. When the novel was first published it was acclaimed as "a turning point", and an "outstanding work of social protest".
"Australia", which will star Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, will go into cinemas on Boxing Day.
