Canongate will publish an anthology offering "a new future from an astonishing array of Scottish voices" created by crime author Val McDermid and geographer Jo Sharp.
Publishing director Francis Bickmore acquired world rights, including audio, to Imagine A Country: Ambitions for a Better Future from Jenny Brown at Jenny Brown Associates. It will be published in hardback, launching at the AyeWrite Festival on 24th March.
Edited, curated and introduced by McDermid and Sharp, it is a collection of ideas, dreams and ambitions, and aims to inspire change, hope and imagination, Canongate said. "Imagine A Country offers visions of a new future from an astonishing array of Scottish voices, from comedians to economists, writers to musicians."
The book features almost 100 contributors, including Jackie Kay, Alan Cumming, Ian Rankin, Leila Aboulela, the late Alasdair Gray, Kerry Hudson, Phil Jupitus, Carol Ann Duffy and Abir Mukherjee.
Royalties generated from sales will be split among five Scottish charities: Shelter Scotland, Scottish Women’s Aid, Scottish Book Trust, Refuweegee and Reforesting Scotland.
