Canongate acquires second from Killen

Canongate has signed a second novel from Chris Killen.

The publisher acquired world rights in In Real Life in a deal signed with the author, now  represented by Cathryn Summerhayes at WME.

The book follows the lives of Ian, Lauren and Paul, who were once close but have now grown apart, when an old email account brings them together again in unexpected ways.

Assistant editor Jo Dingley said: "Chris’s utterly unique voice makes him one of the most important British writers of his generation. Hilarious and heart-breaking, In Real Life paints a searingly honest portrait of that generation, living in a world where human connection is easier than it ever has been, but relationships remain just as tricky."

Canongate published Killen's first book, The Bird Room, in 2009. In Real Life will be published in January 2015.
