Canadian poet's debut to Heinemann

<p>Heinemann has bought a debut novel from award winning Canadian poet Patrick Lane. Publishing director Jason Arthur bought UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Judith Murray at Greene &amp; Heaton. <br /><br /><em>Red Dog, Red Dog</em> is described as &quot;an epic novel of unrequited dreams&quot;. Set in the mid-1950s, it focuses on a troubled family living within a small community in British Columbia.<br /><br />Lane has won awards for his poetry and an earlier memoir, and R<em>ed Dog, Red Dog</em> is already shortlisted for Canada&#39;s Giller Prize. </p><p>Heinemann, part of the Random House Group, will publish it in hardback in May 2009, with a Windmill paperback following in 2010.<br /></p>
