Duchess of Cornwall chooses Mantel and Owens for online book club
The Duchess of Cornwall has revealed the first choices for her Instagram-based book club, featuring titles from Hilary Mantel, Delia Owens, Elif Shafak and William Boyd.
The Duchess of Cornwall announced earlier this month she was launching her Reading Room, described as “a celebration of literature in all its forms”.
The first season's picks are The Mirror & the Light by Mantel (Fourth Estate), Boyd's spy thriller Restless (Bloomsbury), Owens' runaway bestseller Where the Crawdads Sing (Corsair) and Shafak's The Architect's Apprentice (Penguin).
The Duchess of Cornwall said: “To me, reading is a great adventure. I’ve loved it since I was very small and I’d love everybody else to enjoy it as much as I do.
“You can escape, and you can travel, and you can laugh and you can cry. There’s every type of emotion humans experience in a book.”
The Instagram page, which already has nearly 36,000 followers, will also be sharing a book club kit to spark discussion of each featured books.
