More than £150,000 is set to go from the Cambridgeshire library book fund as part of a cost-cutting drive, according to a report in the Cambridgeshire Times.
Library users have been told to expect 25% cuts to their service as part of what Rod Craig, the council's creative director for communities and adult services, describes as Central Government's "enormous ask" to save £2.2m.
"We are trying to do this without cutting any libraries. It would be foolhardy to promise no library closure," he said.
Measures being considered include £1m savings from stripping back office functions, plus "renegotiations" on weekend and evening pay for staff and more use of volunteers. The Council has confirmed it is already reducing mobile library visits to remote areas.
