Actor Simon Callow has been shortlisted for the sixth Sheridan Morley Prize for Theatre Biography for his title about Charles Dickens, two years after winning the prize with his own autobiography.
Callow is nominated for Charles Dickens and the Great Theatre of the World (HarperPress), having won in 2011 for his memoir My Life in Pieces (Nick Hern). He faces fellow actor Rupert Everett on the shortlist with his memoir Vanished Years (Little, Brown).
Also shortlisted are Arthur Laurents for The Rest Of The Story (Applause); Michael Pennington for Sweet William (NIck Hern); Sue Prideaux for Strindberg, A Life (Yale); and Kate Bassett for In Two Minds: A Biography Of Jonathan Miller (Oberon Books).
The winner of the £2,000 prize, which is awarded for the best biography, autobiography or diary in theatre or showbusiness, will be announced on 27th February at the Garrick Club in central London.
Established in 2008, the prize honours the career of author Sheridan Morley, who specialised in biographies of actors, directors and theatre and film personalities. It is administered by Oberon Books.
