Caffeine Nights acquires Shaun Hutson horror backlist

Caffeine Nights Publishing has acquired more than 30 titles in the backlist of horror writer Shaun Hutson, as well a new novel, with Hutson selling e-book rights in his titles for the first time. Managing director Darren Laws described it as a "major coup for an independent publisher of our size", and acquired world English language rights in the books through his agent, Brie Burkeman.

Laws said it would be the first time Hutson's backlist titles were going to be published as e-books, with Hutson having previously held onto the digital rights.

Caffeine Nights will be redesigning the backlist covers, making them more "contemporary", according to Laws, and will be releasing the first four titles-Spawn, Relics, Assassin and Renegades - in October.

The new book, Monolith, will be Hutson's first new book since Epitaph in 2010, and will be published in 2014.

Managing director Darren Laws said: "We believe Shaun should be Britain's number one horror writer with his backlist, craft and imagination and we intend to put him right back there. Shaun has an extremely vibrant and dedicated legion of fans and I am honoured to be publishing these titles and his new novel, Monolith."

He added: "Shaun's older books are as relevant now as they have always been. We are giving them a new coat and presenting them to a new audience as well as his many loyal fans. His new book, Monolith, is going to not only please his existing fans but will gain him many new ones. Signing Shaun, the Godfather of Gore, is a major coup for an independent publisher of our size, and we're grateful to Shaun and his agent, Brie Burkeman, for giving us this chance."
