Pan Macmillan has acquired two novels by Channel 4 News culture editor Matthew Cain, with the first, provisionally titled Shot Through the Heart, to be published in early 2014.

Publishing director Wayne Brookes bought world rights in the two titles through Vivien Green at Sheil Land Associates. Shot Through the Heart will be published initially as a paperback original and e-book.

Brookes said: "With his debut novel, Matthew Cain proves that not only can he interview top selling writers, but play them at their own game. His first foray into fiction is an absolute corker; it's both romantic and sexy with some wonderful twists. I'm extremely proud that Matthew is coming to Pan Macmillan, he's a talented and captivating storyteller."

Cain said: "I'm tremendously lucky that my career in TV has opened up for me so many different worlds—from the music and film industries to theatre and ballet. Now I'm really looking forward to writing about these worlds for Pan Macmillan and sharing with the British public some of the insights I've picked up during more than a decade working in arts television."
