Byatt defends Arts Council decisions

<p>Arts Council literature director Antonia Byatt explains the thinking behind the council&#39;s recent round of funding changes to the <em>Guardian</em>. She stresses that &quot;most of the funded literature sector has got a good deal out of this&quot;, quoting a 10.5% rise for literature funding over the next three years.</p><p>She indicates how the council&#39;s priorities have changed: &quot;You don&#39;t just publish a book, cross your fingers and hope someone will see it.
