Pan Macmillan has acquired actor Brian Blessed’s autobiography.
Editorial director Ingrid Connell bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Tim Bates at Pollinger Ltd.
Blessed has been acting for more than 50 years and has appeared in more than 200 films and TV programmes, including "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" and "Blackadder".
He is also the oldest man to have trekked to the magnetic North Pole and to have climbed to 28,000 feet with oxygen, and he is a boxer who sparred with Joe Louis and Mohammad Ali.
Connell said: “We’re incredibly proud to be publishing Brian’s book. The material we’ve seen so far is wonderful – very funny, outspoken, at times touching and always brilliantly entertaining.”
Blessed said: “I have had thousands of amazing experiences and each one has a story. But I also have opinions, strong opinions, which is why this will be no ordinary memoir… I’m sure it will cause a stir.”
Blessed has previously published books including The Turquoise Mountain: Brian Blessed on Everest, and Dynamite Kid, an autobiography covering his childhood, both with Bloomsbury.
Pan Macmillan will publish in autumn 2015.
