Random House has promoted two people internally, after creating a new position within its CCV division, to offer greater support to managing director Richard Cable. Faye Brewster takes on the new role of deputy managing director of the publisher, which comprises Jonathan Cape, Chatto and Windus, Harvill Secker, Bodley Head, Yellow Jersey, Square Peg, Pimlico and Vintage, on 2nd March. The publisher said the move also came as part of "the ongoing strengthening of the CCV team" following the dividing in 2007 of Random House into CCV and Cornerstone.
As a result, Ed Christie, who is sales and marketing director for Transworld and Random House Children's Books, is being promoted into Brewster's vacated position of deputy group sales director.
From 2nd March, Brewster will report to Cable, taking on direct responsibility for the marketing and publicity departments, respectively headed up by Roger Bratchell and Christian Lewis.
Cable said Brewster, who joined Random House in 2001, would be a "brilliant and popular addition to the senior team". He added: "At a time when publishing is facing many challenges, I am absolutely delighted that we shall be benefitting from Faye's wide ranging publishing experience and expertise...We have seen significant investment in the CCV publishing company over recent years and Faye will be focusing her attention on ensuring that we continue to grow profitably in a challenging market."
Meanwhile Christie, who joined Transworld in 1989, will now divide his time between RHG's Ealing and Vauxhall Bridge Road offices. His new role will mean he hands over his marketing reports, with Janine Giovanni, marketing director of Transworld, reporting to Transworld m.d Larry Finlay. RHCB's marketing director, Barry O'Donovan, will report to m.d Philippa Dickinson.
Garry Prior, group sales director of the Random House Group, said: "Ed's extensive experience of both sales and marketing and the numerous projects he has undertaken with Faye and myself across group issues, make Ed an ideal appointment to this key role. I'm looking forward to working even more closely with Ed in the future to ensure that we continue to deliver a market-leading sales service to our customers and our authors."
