Campaigners in Brent are asking members of the public to donate £5 apiece to fund the legal action over the council's library closures.
The campaigners say they need £30,000 to take their case for a judicial review to the High Court, according to a report in the Harrow Observer. A new umbrella group, Brent SOS Libraries, has been set up to campaign for all six libraries, threatened with closure, including Kensal Rise, which has the support of authors Alan Bennett and Zadie Smith.
A letter before action has already been sent by law firm Bindmans to the council, claiming that their decision to pass a budget premised on the closure of the libraries, before the consultation period itself was over, was unlawful.
