Sarah Braybrooke has become m.d. of Scribe UK following a raft of promotions made at the company.
Former publicity and operations manager Braybrooke has been promoted to m.d of Scribe UK, while publishing executive Molly Slight becomes editorial and publicity manager. Publicity assistant Adam Howard has been made publicist, and digital marketing assistant Sophie Leeds has become digital marketing co-ordinator at the company.
The raft of UK staff promotions comes as Scribe expands its presence in the US.
The publisher has moved its North American sales and distribution to Consortium and has contracted with a US-based marketing and publicity team to support each title on its list. Its first list with Consortium will appear in the autumn.
With its head office in Melbourne, Scribe established a London office in 2013, and since then has seen success with titles such as Gut by Giulia Enders, Dark Money by Jane Mayer, Mrs Engels by Gavin McCrea, and Nightmare in Berlin by Hans Fallada. Scribe UK is distributed by Faber and Faber, and as of the beginning of last year became a full member of the Independent Alliance.
Henry Rosenbloom, Scribe’s founder and publisher, said he is "delighted" with the "rapid progress" of Scribe UK and Philip Gwyn Jones, publisher-at-large for Scribe UK, added that he was glad to be a part of Scribe's "phenomenally quick ascent to media and trade prominence, prize shortlistings galore, and notable sales growth in the UK".
"[The success of Scribe UK] demonstrates that, despite the naysayers, it is still entirely possible for a new independent publishing house to win the attention of booksellers, journalists, festivals, and readers by sticking to the immemorial virtues: editorial ambition and integrity; strikingly inventive design and production; intelligent, responsive publicizing of the books; a sense of proportion; and oodles of unsleeping dedication and diligence", he said.
