A research series by the Royal Armouries, featuring books on Henry VIII and Henry V, will be published by independent academic publisher Boydell & Brewer.
The Royal Armouries, the UK's national collection of arms and armour, stuck a joint agreement with Boydell & Brewer, as it celebrates its 50th year, to co-publish the titles.
The series, to be edited by the Royal Armouries, will include collections and monographs. The first title in the series, Tournament as Spectacle, edited by Alan Murray and Karen Watts, will appear in 2020 to mark the 500th anniversary of Henry VIII’s festival of chivalry, the Field of the Cloth of Gold.
Subsequent volumes on Henry V’s funerary achievements, medieval sword manuals, and tournaments are already planned, with others soon to be confirmed.
Martyn Lawrence, Royal Armouries publishing manager, said: “We are very proud that our research will continue to grow through this partnership with Boydell & Brewer. Their reputation in the scholarly community is admirable, and I am looking forward to working with the team.”
Boydell & Brewer c.e.o. James Powell added: “I am delighted that we are working with the Royal Armouries on this important new series. It is an exciting fit with our existing publishing and we look forward to applying our publishing expertise and worldwide distribution to bring their books to the widest possible audience.”
