Holly Bourne, London Book Fair’s author of the day on Thursday (14th March), is writing a YA novella for Barrington Stoke.
What Magic is This? is about a group of girls who go through a ‘witch phase’ and explores how sleepovers strengthen the bonds of female friendship.
Editorial director Ailsa Bathgate acquired world rights from Alice Sutherland Hawes and will publish on 25th July.
Bathgate said: “Holly Bourne’s writing resonates so deeply with her readers because she truly understands the issues facing young people today and writes about them in an exceptionally empathetic, smart and witty way. Her sensitive but pragmatic portrayal of mental-health problems helps to reduce the stigma surrounding them and offer hope, while she is also a true champion of female friendship, which is the strong and wonderful message that is threaded through What Magic is This?”
