Borders US to cut 300 distribution jobs

<p>One of Borders US&rsquo; distribution centres is set to close this summer, as woes continue at the beleagured chain.</p><p>The Borders Books and Music distribution centre in LaVergne, Nashville, Tennessee will close in July, with 310 positions to be lost.<br /><br />The closure comes after more than 200 jobs were previously cut at the centre, news site WKRN-TV <a href="http://www.wkrn.com/Global/story.asp?S=13825792" target="_blank">reports</a>.&nbsp;</p><p>In a statement, the company said it would close the centre in mid July and that the move is part of its &quot;long-term plan to enhance the efficiency of its distribution network and reduce operating expenses&quot;.</p><p>The statement said: &quot;After an extensive review of its supply chain, the company found it has excess capacity in its distribution network and requires only two distribution centres to process and ship inventory to stores.&quot;<br /><br />Distribution will be transferred to the other centres in Pennsylvania and California. <br /> </p>
