Booktrust has announced the shortlist for the YoungMinds Book Award 2010, which celebrates books that help children and young people to deal with the pressures of growing up.
The selection of short-listed books has been based on reviews given by young people in UK book groups and schools. The shortlist will now go to a panel of judges, including children's authors Phillip Ardagh, Tabitha Suzuma and another to be confirmed and three child judges. The £2,000 prize will be awarded at a ceremony at the Unicorn Theatre in London on 16th November.

Ember Fury by Cathy Brett (Headline Publishing Group)
Inside J.A. Jarman (Andersen Press)
The Truth about Leo David Yelland (Puffin)
Them and US Bali Rai (Barrington Stoke)
Zelah Green, Queen of Clean Vanessa Curtis (Egmont UK)
Viv Bird, chief executive of Booktrust, said: "This shortlist not only tackles a range of situations and emotions that young people may experience, but also showcases the excellence and vibrancy in writing for this age group currently being published."
