Booktrust to replace Amazon as award sponsor

Amazon will not be the sponsor of the next Booktrust Best Book Awards, which will take place in 2016, the charity has confirmed.

Booktrust is “currently looking for another sponsor”, said a spokesperson, declining to make any further comment. 

Booktrust chose Amazon Kindle to sponsor its inaugural 2014 Best Book Awards, which led to bestselling author Allan Ahlberg turning down a lifetime achievement award.

Ahlberg said he felt he couldn’t accept the award because of Amazon’s tax avoidance in the UK.
