Booktrust has appointed Chris Riddell, winner of this year’s Cost award for best children’s book, as the new online writer in residence.
Starting 3rd February, Riddell will take on the role for six months, contributing regular blog posts and sharing an exclusive piece of work on the Booktrust website. Unlike previous writers in residence, most of his posts will be in the form of illustrations and sketches.
Last month Riddell won the Costa children's prize for Goth Girl and the Ghost of a Mouse (Macmillan Children’s Books), which the judges called “an instant classic for children of all ages”.
He is also the author and illustrator of the Ottoline series (Macmillan), is a political cartoonist for the Observer, and has illustrated two books by Neil Gaiman; The Graveyard Book and Fortunately, The Milk (Bloomsbury).
Riddell is taking over the role from Laura Dockrill, author and illustrator of Darcey Burdock (Corgi Childrens).
