Retail site Bookshop makes £65k sales on UK launch day

New online retailer secured sales of around £65,000 in its first day, making £16,000 for indies.

The firm, which launched in the UK yesterday (2nd November) following runaway success in the US, currently has 150 indie bookshops signed up alongside publishers including Atlantic, Picador and Faber & Faber.

Founded by publisher Andy Hunter as a way to challenge Amazon's online dominance, it gives indie bookshops 30% of the cover price from each sale they generate on the platform, with 10% of sales from affiliates also going to shops. Customer service and delivery are handled by ...
