The Books Are My Bag campaign has already seen thousands of bags ordered from independent booksellers as the deadline for orders fast approaches.
Seven Stories bookshop in Newcastle has ordered 1,000 bags, David’s Bookshop in Letchworth has ordered 800, Debbie James from the Bookshop, Kibworth, has ordered 500 and J&G Innes in St Andrews has also ordered 500 items with the name of their bookshops to be printed on them.
The campaign was announced to the trade at the London Book Fair by Maurice Saatchi and backed by the Publishers Association and the Booksellers Association. It will officially launch to the public in September.
Paul Wallis, manager of David’s Bookshop, said: “I thought it was a very positive campaign and also a very striking and simple message. If enough people do it, I think it has the potential to be very effective.”
The deadline for orders is 30th April. Bags can be ordered through www.booksaremybag.com.
