Ebury's Lucy Oates and Katherine Cowdrey, The Bookseller's deputy news editor, are joining Transworld in a trio of appointments in the publisher's non-fiction editorial team, led by Susanna Wadeson.
Oates (pictured, top) joins as senior commissioning editor on 4th March and will focus on soft business and personal development. At Ebury she has been a key member of their smart thinking hub. She recently published the Sunday Times bestseller Do What You Love, Love What You Do by Notonthehighstreet founder Holly Tucker, and also Kate Bowler’s No Cure for Being Human, a Sunday Times Book of the Year and an instant New York Times bestseller. She also led the acquisition of new "Dragon" and bestselling author Steve Bartlett.
Cowdrey (pictured, right) joins on 4th January, working closely with Wadeson on her list of books, while Stephanie Duncan (below, left) is confirmed as a permanent member of the team having covered Wadeson’s absence due to illness during 2020 and Henry Vines’ paternity leave during 2021. She was previously at Bloomsbury where she launched and devised the publishing strategy for Bloomsbury Reader. Duncan will take on editorial responsibility for producing and publishing some of Transworld’s more complex and illustrated books, overseeing the non-fiction paperback list.
Wadeson said: "These appointments give me so much reason for optimism and excitement in 2022. It is fantastic that we can continue to benefit from Steph’s expertise. She is a wonderful champion of our books and one of the most positive, diligent and meticulous editorial colleagues I have had the good fortune to work with. I can’t wait for Katherine to join us and I know we will be hugely thankful for her research expertise as much as her expert editorial skills and experience working under pressure and to deadline. And Lucy has excellent taste, huge energy, is proactive, opportunistic and has an admirable ‘audience-first’ attitude.
"I’m truly thrilled to have her join us and can’t wait for her develop this area of our list. We have many brilliant books to publish next year and I feel enormously proud of the entire non-fiction team and what we will achieve together."
