The Bookseller Industry Awards will this year celebrate the ‘book’ of the year alongside the publishers, editors, and retailers who bring the titles to market.
Now in its 10th year, in 2015 a total of 21 awards will be given out at the Hilton, Park Lane in London on 11th May. This year two new awards have been added to the roster: Book of the Year, and Digital Business of the Year. The latter combines the E-book Retailer of the Year and Digital Strategy of the Year categories; the former will look for The Bookseller’s overall Book of the Year, awarded to the title (print and digital) that best encapsulates excellence in publishing. The winner will be chosen from a shortlist of 10 titles selected by The Bookseller. The Book of the Year award reflects the process of getting a book to publication, and rewards the book itself and the collective effort involved. The award will be presented both to the book’s author and its publisher.
A full list of criteria for each award is on The Bookseller Industry Awards Website and the deadline for entries is 20th February, with the shortlists to be announced in April.
Bookings for the awards ceremony will open in one week, with an early bird rate discount available.
Winners in 2014 included Blackwell’s, named Book Retailer of the Year; Little, Brown, which was crowned Publisher of the Year; and Pan Macmillan, recognised with The Bookseller Special Award for its work with Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.
The Bookseller Industry Award was founded as The Bookseller Retail Awards in 2005, but later combined with the Trade Nibbies (founded in 1990 by Publishing News) to form The Bookseller Industry Awards. The awards also include The Booksellers Association Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Book Trade (formerly the Gerry Davies Award).
