Books Plus in Penzance has been sold to new owners and will soon change its name to The Edge of the World Bookshop.
David and Barbara Mainwaring had owned the shop for 20 years before it was snapped up by the new owners Rachel and James Howorth, because the Mainwarings wanted to retire.
Under its new ownership, the Cornish bookshop will have a refreshed look and a bolstered children’s section.
Regarding the bookshop’s name change, Rachel Howorth said: "We just wanted something that was really inspiring, that would fire people’s imagination and we thought that children would like it. It also works quite nicely because we are near the sea."
Howorth said she planned to boost the bookshop’s profile by holding events with authors, book clubs and creative writing groups. She added that her experience as a former researcher for BBC Radio 4 combined with James’s knowledge and experience in books made them a good team to run a bookshop.
"I can do the marketing side of things and he is into the retail side of things. This is an opportunity for us to work together," she said. "We know it is tough in the industry at the moment but we are not put off."
