<p>Paul Smiddy</p><p>Surely that oxymoronic genre, the footballer autobiography, has reached its apogee with the signing by HarperCollins of a five-book deal with Wayne Rooney? Better with the ball than the pen, perhaps, and Hunter Davies will have a job to scoop out enough material. The signing underlines just how much the supermarkets are driving a major segment of the market. Presumably it is just coincidence that Rooney has also recently been signed by Asda to be the mouthpiece of their new advertising campaign.</p><p>I have spent much time in the last couple of weeks visiting retailers...
