The Book of You to Michael Joseph

The Book of You to Michael Joseph

Michael Joseph has commissioned a book of micro-actions designed to help people live happier, healthier lives, with contributions from experts including Jamie Oliver.

The Book of You will empower people "to make change happen, one micro-action at a time - helping you to live a happier, healthier, more fulfilled life".

The book is split into four categories - food, mindfulness, movement, and the things we love.

Each of the micro-actions is designed by an expert "host". Jamie Oliver hosts the food actions, alongside productivity expert and author of Small Move, Big Change, Caroline Arnold, as well as two fitness trainers and two neuroscientists.

The book is based on an app called YOU-app. Lindsey Evans at Michael Joseph, bought world rights direct from Fifth Corner, which created the app and whose co-founders are Nora Rosendahl, Nelli Lahteenmaki and Aleksi Hoffman.

She said: "I started to use the app at the start of this year and became a huge fan of the way in which it helped me to make small changes in my life, for the better.

"It got me thinking that the actions would translate well into a small format book, one that you can carry around with you to make notes in, to write down your goals or a recipe, or the title of the latest book you’re reading and what you enjoyed about it.

"It’s about taking time out for yourself -  just a few minutes a day - to appreciate beauty around you, to do a random act of kindness, to try out a new ingredient or to use your time whilst running the bath or waiting for the kettle to boil to fit in some squats or a planking exercise."

Rosendahl and Lahteenmaki said: "We are immensely excited about this project and working with the team at Penguin. Our mission is to support people in making small changes in their lives, and micro-actions work brilliantly as a book.

"We believe we might actually be the first ones to turn an app into a book. The two complement each other nicely - whereas the app has the social element to it, the book is a much more personal companion, almost like a diary."

The Book of You will be released on 31st December.
