Sky and satellite show "The Book Channel" is to film two special programmes at London Book Fair.
Presenter and author Tina Bettison will report on events, issues and trends at the fair, plus book and publishing-related products. She will also conduct author interviews, which the company are offering as a special marketing deal to appear on the TV channel, YouTube and for embedding on author websites.
Short extracts will also appear as part of the Channel’s two 30-minute programmes; the first will be broadcast on 3rd May at 18.30pm, it will then be repeated at the same time other evenings that week. The second show will first be broadcast on 10th May at the same time with repeats during the week.
Founder and creative director Richard Flewitt said that author videos "haven’t quite caught on in the UK yet . . . the English publishing industry is a bit behind the times. They’re happy for an author to appear in front of 20 or less people (at a signing) then don’t see that a video could reach so many more people."
He added that in America "they love [author videos]". He said that growth of the company, which launched in April last year, "hasn’t been as we would have liked it". The channel is looking for a sponsor.
The Book Channel will film at the fair Tuesday and Wednesday.
The channel is available on Sky 166, 216 and Freesat 402 and website www.thebookchannel.tv. The programme is the brainchild of ex-ITV programme-maker Richard Flewitt, Fred Perkins, chief executive of Information TV, and Paul Hammond, entrepreneur.
