Book Aid International has raised almost £2,000 through its quiz teams featuring publishers, agents, authors and librarians.
The reigning champions The Digestives had their title stolen by newcomers The Birthday Party at the charity’s annual event on Tuesday evening (24th October) at The Warwick in Soho, with "Drop the Dead Donkey” actor and rare books dealer Neil Pearson as quizmaster.
Altogether 16 teams helped raise £1,963 to support the charity’s work, meaning 981 new books will be sent to areas where there are barriers to books.
The teams were made up of people from across the publishing industry including Bloomsbury, Hodder Education, Little Brown, Macmillan, Quercus, Schofield & Simms and United Agents and as well as a team of librarians from Tower Hamlets libraries and authors and illustrators.
Pearson described the night as a “fundraising bloodbath” with rounds including food and drink in literature, horror and a round written by trivia enthusiast and travel writer Mark Mason.
