The winners of the 2009 Bafta awards were announced last night, with "Slumdog Millionaire", adapted from Vikas Swarup's novel Q&A (Black Swan) receiving seven accolades including Best Film.
Slumdog also won best director for Danny Boyle, best adapted screenplay, cinematography, music, editing and sound.
Kate Winslet won the leading actress prize for her role in "The Reader", adapted from Bernhard Schlink's novel (Phoenix). "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", adapted from an F Scott Fitzgerald short story (Penguin Modern Classics), won awards for production design, special visual effects and make-up and hair. "The Duchess", adapted from Amanda Foreman's biography Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire (HarperPerennial) picked up Best Costume.
