Bonnier in Sweden is working on a new online e-book and audiobook subscription service called Bookbeat, with the aim of rolling out the future digital consumer service for books, "both nationally and internationally”.
Bonnier's Swedish website for the service went live earlier this week, where it explains the premise for the flat rate subscription service and where the company is still hiring. The service is pitched to potential future employees as “a new and important strategic investment in Bonnier”.
For a fixed monthly fee - paid monthly, with an option to leave at any point - customers can listen and read as many books as they want across a large range in all genres, from both front and backlist. It plans to offer customers personalised tips, based on what they have already read and liked, that will be sent direct to customers’ mobiles. Customers are encouraged on its website - www.bookbeat.com - to sign up early to trial the service free of charge when it launches.
Bonnier has also launched the beta version for a new online self-publishing service in Sweden, Type & Tell, that helps authors to increase their online exposure. Business manager for Type & Tell, Rebecka Leffler, said: “Clearly there are many people writing, more than space allows for on Swedish publishers’ lists, who are interested in publishing their text.
“The goal with Type & Tell is to help meet the different needs and wishes of tomorrow's authors. Self-publishing is a fast growing market and we want to be a part of it.
“We are also talking with a number of important Swedish retailers on how we can help highlight and give exposure to self-published books.”
Bonnier UK has not yet commented on when the Bookbeat service will be coming to the UK.
