Bonnier Books has acquired a new title by Manchester United footballer Rio Ferdinand, looking back on his ten-year stint with the club.
Richard Johnson, c.e.o. of Bonnier Publishing, bought world rights in Rio: My Decade as a Red from Ferdinand, with the title to be published as a £20 hardback on 1st August.
The book will be a picture-led celebration of Ferdinand's football career, with more than 300 images as well as his own perspective on the key moments in his life. It will cover aspects of his early career at West Ham and Leeds United, and will focus more deeply on his time at Manchester United, from his part in his first Premier League title triumph in 2002-3, to his match-winning goal in the 87th minute during retiring manager Sir Alex Ferguson's last home game.
Johnson said: "Rio Ferdinand is not only one of the most talented footballers of his generation, but also a fascinating celebrity, with a huge international following. This book will give a real sense of Rio's outlook on his life, his career, his business interests and his ideas about the future."
The publisher confirmed Ferdinand will be undertaking a series of events around publication to support the book.
