Alexandre Bompard will replace Christophe Cuvillier as chairman and chief executive of the French cultural product chain Fnac at the beginning of next year. The appointment marks "a new phase" in the chain’s development in "this highly competitive market," and the aim to strengthen its position in France and abroad "as a leader of the digital revolution," the statement said.
Bompard (38) has been the head of the Europe 1 radio station since June 2008, after working for the Canal + television channel and serving in as a finance inspector and advisor to François Fillon when the prime minister was social affairs minister.
Bompard had been tipped to replace Patrick de Carolis as head of France Télévision, but the job went to Rémy Pflimlin instead. After his election, President Nicolas Sarkozy took over responsibility for appointments to the post.
Cuvillier will take up a new position in the office of PPR chief, François-Henri Pinault.
