Boldwood has appointed Claire Fenby from One More Chapter as digital marketing manager and signed three gangland thriller authors to its list.
Fenby, previously a digital marketing assistant for the HarperCollins imprint, will manage all of Boldwood’s social media activity and will be “turbo-charging“ its newsletter campaigns and global marketing presence.
She said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Boldwood at a really exciting time in their publishing. Boldwood puts their authors and readers at the heart of everything they do and I can't wait to be a part of their next chapter.”
The publisher, which has now sold three million books since it was launched by Amanda Ridout in 2019, has also made three more acquisitions from the gangland thriller genre. The self-published authors will bring both new series and backlist titles to Boldwood, which plans to “establish their brands and bring them to a global audience across all formats”.
Worcestershire-based Edie Baylis is a successful self-published author of dark, gritty thrillers with violent background settings, the publisher said. She has signed a five-book deal with Boldwood and the first book in her new series, set in Birmingham, will be published in December 2021.
Gillian Godden is a writer of gangland fiction as well as a full-time NHS key worker in Hull. She lived in London, where sets her thrillers, for over 30 years, and worked in various strip clubs, pubs and venues which have inspired her stories. She has signed a six-book contract with Boldwood for a new series, the first title in which, Gold Digger, will be published in July 2021. In addition, Boldwood will be reissuing her five backlist titles over the next few months.
Kerry Kaya is the author of Essex-based gangland thrillers with strong family dynamics. She grew up on one of the largest council estates in the UK, where she sets her novels, and also works full-time in a busy maternity department for the NHS. She has signed a nine-book deal with Boldwood for both new and backlist titles. Her first book, The Price, will be published in July 2021.
Ridout said: “After a strong first quarter, where we have exceeded three million books sold across all formats and in every part of the world, it is thrilling to announce further team expansion and to welcome three more authors to our list, bringing the total to 53. Claire will be a wonderful asset to the team. As well as driving our title marketing strategies, she will be helping us build our author brands and international company profile as we enter our third year. Exciting times ahead!"
