IB Tauris has commissioned a book about Nigerian terror group Boko Haram, titled Boko Haram: Inside Nigeria’s Unholy War, from former AFP journalist Mike Smith. World rights were acquired from the author.
The book will provide an account of the origins of the movement, its leadership, aims and ambitions. It places in a wider context the recent kidnapping of over 200 schoolgirls, which has brought Boko Haram to world attention. The author has interviewed with parents of some of the kidnapped girls who have been taken, their school principal and one of the girls who escaped.
Joanna Godfrey, senior editor for history and current affairs at IB Tauris, said: “Mike is currently in Nigeria completing his research on the book and reporting on the recent protests in Abuja. He has many years of experience reporting from West Africa and knows the current situation in Nigeria inside out. His access to previously-unknown sources will provide an important new perspective on the terrible rise of Boko Haram.”
IB Tauris will publish Boko Haram: Inside Nigeria’s Unholy War in November 2014.
