Barnes & Noble has made up to 50 positions redundant in a recent reorganisation.
Publishers Weekly understands that staff including vice-president of merchandising Bob Wietrak, director of small press and vendor relations Marcella Smith and cookbook buyer Lee Stern have left the retailer. Reports suggest that 45-50 positions in the buying group have been made defunct.
A spokesperson for B&N confirmed "a small number of organizational changes this week" that the retailer said were "designed to better align our resources with our business." B&N would not confirm the number or names of people let go.
The spokesperson stressed that the company is reallocating resources to areas that are expanding, such as its digital operations, and would not comment on how duties of the departed staff would be divided up.
