Bloomsbury's 2007 "better than expected"

<p>Bloomsbury Publishing announced that 2007 trading was &quot;better than expected&quot; and the year&#39;s results will be &quot;ahead of current market consensus&quot;, in a trading statement released today (15th January).</p><p>The company said that sales were strong in the UK and Germany, with &quot;significant progress&quot; made in its specialist publishing. It also highlighted a good finish to the year from a number of titles, including <em>The Kite Runner</em> and <em>A Thousand Splendid Suns</em>, <em>Cranford</em> and <em>The River Cottage Fish Book</em>, continued re-orders from the Harry Potter series, and &quot;a number of significant rights deals&quot; concluded during the year.<br /><br />Bloomsbury concluded that 2008 was off to a good start, pointing to the inclusion of <em>A Thousand Splendid Suns</em> on &quot;Richard &amp; Judy&quot; Best Read last week.<br /><br />Bloomsbury&#39;s preliminary results for the year ended 31st December 2007 will be announced on 1st April 2008.</p>
