Bloomsbury wins auction for US debut

<p>Arzu Tahsin at Bloomsbury has won an auction for a debut novel by <strong>Alan Drew</strong>, a graduate of the Iowa Writer&#39;s Workshop. Drew&rsquo;s <em>Of Things on Earth</em> (autumn 2008) is set in a town on the outskirts of Istanbul, and is about the struggling Basioglu family, caught in a battle to survive after the 1999 earthquake.</p><p>Tahsin says: &quot;Set against the backdrop of a dramatic moment in recent history, this beautiful and affecting novel will leave readers breathless.&quot; She bought <em>Of Things on Earth</em> through Cathryn Summerhayes at William Morris.
