Bloomsbury Children’s acquires Vlahos title

Bloomsbury Children’s UK and US divisions will simultaneously publish a new YA novel from Len Vlahos in winter 2017.

In House of Stone, fifteen-year-old Jackie's dad is dying of a brain tumour so decides to auction off his life on eBay to a reality TV show producer. Disgusted by the farce the show makes of her family, Jackie secretly begins airing "the show behind the show" on YouTube in an attempt to shut it all down.

The book is described as a heartbreaking tragicomedy and is one of Bloomsbury’s key titles for this year’s Bologna book fair, which is taking place 30th March – 2nd April.

Cindy Loh, publishing director for Bloomsbury Children’s Books in the US, acquired the title in a two-book, pre-empty deal from Sandra Bond at the Bond Literary Agency. Loh said: “Len Vlahos is a remarkable storyteller who coaxes the reader into sympathizing with every one of his diverse cast of characters—including a tumour that has a personality and ironic life of its own. House of Stone is deeply affecting. It’s a thought-provoking, soul searching novel that cuts to the bone; the kind of book you can’t wait to finish so you can start talking about it—and about Len.”

US author Vlahos is also the author of The Scar Boys and the forthcoming Scar Girl, published by Egmont.
